From the Democalypse Blog

America is debating the viability of torture. Let me say it again. America is debating the viability of torture.

It makes me sick, sick at heart, sick of those who treat this as a close moral call while crowing about the 2004 victory of “moral values” at the polls.

To much of the world, we are becoming the kind of monsters our own “Greatest Generation” – my father among them – is justly celebrated for defeating in World War II. Read More...

Unfit Commander

The Los Angeles Times Book Review (Sun., Oct. 31) gave a cover-story thumbs up to Glenn Smith's and Texans for Truth book, Unfit Commander: Texans for Truth Take On George W. Bush. The Book Review also panned the swift boaters from hell book attacking John Kerry, Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out against John Kerry.

Orville Schell, the well-respected Dean of the UC Berkeley School of Journalism, penned the below review of Smith's book. Smith "exposes the abyss that is opening between reality and fantasy in this nation's representation of its leaders and important public issues," wrote Schell.

Of the swift boater's book, Michael Parks wrote, "This book is not journalism. The authors feel no need to be factual, accurate, truthful, fair or, finally, compassionate, all of which we tell journalism students they should be." Parks is director of the School of Journalism at USC's Annenberg School for Communication.

The Carnival for Full Enjoyment took over the streets of central Edinburgh on 4th July http://www.nodeal.org.uk

The Carnival for Full Enjoyment took over the streets of central Edinburgh on 4th July Spring is upon us, which means that just around the corner the school season will be winding up. For many students it means a time for fun and laughter. But for many high school juniors and seniors, their minds are focus on prom night.

Prom night is a major highlight of many students high school career. On this night, everything is planned to be perfect and run smoothly. This can also be a stressful time for the teachers and parents who attend prom. Staying on top of things and making sure that nothing gets "out of hand" can be somewhat overwhelming. Especially when it come to the prom after parties.

Many schools will arrange for games and activities to be held on campus to prevent the students from getting into trouble. Sadly, many students will never attend these functions, due to childish games or lack off interest. The key to remember is to try and find something that will keep the students attention and provide great entertainment. A question to ask yourself is, "Will the students be able to enjoy this time and time again?" Having games and activities that are fun, but only last for a short period of time will only lead the student to boredom. It is important to keep the students active and entertained.

When I was a freshman in college, my university held a block party for all arriving freshman. The university had blocked off two major intersections and parking lots so we could as walk about and interact. To keep up occupied and a part of the festivities, the university had rented an inflatable moonwalk, and an inflatable obstacle course. Students were lining up to try out these games and would still get back in line after they were done. Inflated games have been hits for all types of school or even church events. They can provide safe and clean fun for students or adults. Most rental companies that offer inflatable games can usually be found on the Internet or in the yellow pages. But before you to decide on a company to rent from, hear are three things to think off.

1. What is the condition of the equipment? 2. Where is the company you are renting from located and is there a traveling fee? 3. Is there enough space to accommodate these inflated games at location of the party? 4. Ask the company for an approximate number of guests a game can allow per hour. 5. Does the company provide skilled equipment supervisors?

The idea behind these games is to bring laughter and enjoyment to everyone around. Keeping these five simple questions in mind, you will be able to decide if the company you are going to rent from is truly going to provide you with the best in inflatable entertainment possible.
